If the question you’re struggling with is, “but what will I wear”? (grinch voice haha) I got you! Here are three tips to help you choose the best outfit.

Think about the type of photoshoot you envision, is it low saturation and neutrals? If so, picking the right Patterns, Colors, and Accessories will help you set the tone for your photoshoot.

#1 Patterns: With patterns you need to stick to simple!

Some great examples of simple patterns are plain/solid, striped, pin-striped, and plaid. Patterns you want to stay away from are paisley, argyle, and animal print. If you do want to go with a more crazier pattern for photos you want to make sure NO one else in the family is wearing pattern. So if you wear tie-dye, florals or polka dots make sure no one else is going crazy with the pattern as well or it will look bad in the photos! For example the two simple patterns of stripes and plaid below in the black and white photo look great together! But if they were both wearing plaid or both wearing stripes it would be a bit too much.

Another example is the couple above, the woman is wearing a polka dotted dress. Her polka dots are very simple and dainty which is perfect! Big polka dots would lead to distraction…you want the focus to be on you the subject, not big polka dots.

#2 Colors: Neutrals and earth tones are best!

If I could have every client dress in neutrals I would. Creams, off white, white, browns are just perfect. But, I know that’s not the case so, if you want to wear colors do NOT wear anything bright! Bright colors will hinder editing; and make it very hard to blend the picture with the colors from the background. For example: the pine needles in the announcement photos above or even the orangey plants in the background of the Farris Family. Earth tones are also really great for photos! Darker blues, greens, burnt orange, mustard yellow, okay I will give you some examples below:

#3 Accessories: Hats, Flowers, Champagne and more

Yes, it is our job as photographers to see literally everything all at one time…but we’re human and sometimes we make mistakes! Like not catching soon enough that the hubby has his phone and sunglasses in his back pocket (happens all the time!). So, make sure to leave those accessories in the car or have me hold them for you. But I do want to see those Gigi Pip hats (like shown above) and those cowboy hats because they just make the picture!

Flowers make for a great accessory! For Kaylee’s branding shoot she stopped by Trader Joes and thew together a bouquet, they enhanced the photos and it wasn’t even expensive! I also suggest wearing long & flowy dresses, because movement is everything with photography! Seriously, I mean how cute are these photos of Kaylee!! She had the hat, the flowy dress and the flowers…and that’s why her photos are *Chef’s kiss*!!!

Champagne is another great accessory you can bring to a shoot to give you an activity to do with your fiancé or spouse, and it just makes for fun pictures!
